Also known as Iris domestica. A rhizomatous member of the iris family, the Blackberry Lily produces fans of sword-like foliage and iris-like 2" flowers of burnt orange with purple-brown spotting. In late summer, the flower stems reach a height of almost 3", displaying numerous blooms (each lasts only a day) for several weeks running. When the blooms fade, a cluster of blackberry-like seeds repkace each flower. Best left to form a healthy clump in border, by roadside or in the wild garden. Native to India, China, Japan.
